Redefining African Luxury, Crafted in The Gambia

Jarga is a luxury handbag and accessories brand rooted in Gambian culture and inspired by a rich family legacy. Relaunched in 2025, Jarga proudly designs and handcrafts leather handbags made in The Gambia, bringing a bold new voice to the world of African luxury fashion.
Our journey began in Europe, where decades of craftsmanship expertise laid the foundation.
In 2019, we returned to our roots — relocating production to The Gambia to elevate local artisanal talent, create sustainable jobs, and set new standards in African handbag manufacturing.

Behind Jarga are sisters Jankeh and Saffie Njie, whose heritage blends the elegance of Gambian tradition with Scandinavian influence. Born and raised in Kolbotn, Norway, their deep connection to The Gambia shaped a passion for storytelling through design. With every visit home, they were captivated by the grace, strength, and style woven into traditional African fashion — a luxury that felt intimate, meaningful, and worthy of global attention.

The name Jarga honors their great-grandfather, a renowned Gambian historian and entrepreneur from the 1800s. His legacy of wisdom, resilience, and cultural pride continues to guide the brand's mission.

At Jarga, we are committed to redefining African luxury — honoring the artistry of Gambian-made handbags and reshaping how the world sees African craftsmanship.

Each piece we create tells a story — of heritage, strength, elegance, and identity.

Join us as we celebrate the past, empower the present, and craft a luxurious future — one handmade bag at a time.
